The best of bloggers are still on a journey…
You have probably been blogging for a while now. Errr, more than a month of blogging is a while, actually. Like every other field anyone can ever venture into, a month is enough to begin to experience, learn, make mistakes and discover. This is a journey, remember. The best of bloggers are still on a journey, if you must know. There is no end to learning as a blogger.
However, while you are on your blogging journey, it is very easy to become confused, unmotivated and burnt out. There is so much to take in, so much to learn, so much to unlearn and decisions to make.
In the process, you might begin to lose your authenticity as a blogger. I have a list of 3 tips to help you stay on track. These tips will help you hold on to your blogging voice in a sea of blogging diversity.
- Create your own rules.
Of all the things I have learned here, one sticks out more than the others and that is to make my own rules. So many bloggers come with different ideas and systems, blogging protocols and advice. You have to be able to decide on what you want. While some bloggers emphasize on the importance of search engine optimization, for example, others frown at its exaggeration. They probably know and appreciate its importance but they would rather not dwell on its intricacies. You have to be able to strike a balance.
Pick what works for you as a blogger and run with it. Begin to try out things and make sure that you are comfortable with experimenting with them. If they work for you, great. If they don’t, move on to something else.
- Be inspired, don’t imitate.
Oftentimes, there is a recurring tendency to be like some blogger you look up to and so you begin to pattern your blogging into their own style. You leave your own true authenticity and originality and begin to drool at someone else’s. It’s a common distraction and that’s why I am talking about it. You will have to realize that this is a gentle steering away from your own true blogging. You are gently being swayed to lose your vibes.
No matter how appealing another person’s style is, do not imitate. Be inspired, learn and adopt what can work for you but let it end there. Twist new lessons to conform to your own blogging style. It’s okay if these new techniques don’t work for you as a blogger. Move on to the the next and keep growing.
- Be flexible.
One other important lesson to learn if you must stay true to your blogging is to be flexible. Rigidity looks like the way to go to not lose your originality but in reality, this is not the case. Flexibility encourages expansion.
If something doesn’t work for you, be flexible enough to admit that to yourself and work on it. In being rigid, you gradually lose taste of your blogging. Be open to changes that can positively affect your growth while you try to stay authentic.
In conclusion, everybody has had pitfalls and successes (no matter how little they are) but in all of these, what matter the most are understanding the niche you have picked, understanding what you want to achieve with your blogging, discovering your blogging voice and staying true to it no matter the variation and diversity.
